Just leave your cares, phones, and the world behind you. Enter a dark dining room, sit at your table for two, relax to the sounds of background jazz music, and wait for your waiters’ instructions on how to enjoy your dinner in the dark.
WHAT IS THIS DINNER IN THE DARK?
Wondering what this dinner in the dark entails? Where is it held? How does it work? What will you eat and drink? How will you go about eating and drinking? Should you be scared?
Here are all the answers to your questions. Firstly, you should know that Ljubljana’s Dinner in the Dark takes place in the restaurant Pri Trubarjevi Mami, one of the venues in the locally well-known Kaval Group chain of restaurants. The food is of the highest quality, prepared for you by Kaval’s chefs of the highest order.
Two attentive waiters will guide you all throughout your two-hour culinary experience. They’ll lead you to your table through the dark by means of their night vision devices or goggles (diners are not blindfolded), sit you down, and explain where your cutlery, glasses, and water dispensing jug are.
You’ll also have a container filled with water in which you can wash your hands should you decide to make more use of them rather than your cutlery while eating. You can feel around for your cutlery and use it. But this is actually one of the joys of eating in the dark: you have the liberty to feel your food with your hands, engage with it, and not be ashamed. Here, you can really get intimate with your food!
You’ll also notice that as your food approaches you’ll be able to smell and detect some (if not all) of the items you’re about to eat. Note: With your lack of sight, your sense of smell, taste, and touch are heightened, making your dining experience all the more exciting.
SURPRISE MENU OF SLOVENE FOOD & WINES
Your two-hour food experience will include four courses. You can choose from either a meat or vegetarian menu. The food is traditional Slovene but with a modern twist in which a number of delightful flavors arouse your senses. Don’t worry, the food is served at just the right temperature so you won’t run the risk of burning your tongue.
