Romantic Valentine’s Day Dinner in the Dark

Romantic Valentine’s Day Dinner in the Dark

Ljubljana’s most romantic dinner experience where you can truly connect with your partner and food in complete darkness on Valentine’s Day.

Fancy a romantic dining experience where you can really focus on your loved one and your food on Valentine’s Day? Ljubljana’s Dinner in the Dark experience has the perfect ambiance to bring you closer to your partner as you eat together.

Just leave your cares, phones, and the world behind you. Enter a dark dining room, sit at your table for two, relax to the sounds of background jazz music, and wait for your waiters’ instructions on how to enjoy your dinner in the dark.

Wondering what this dinner in the dark entails? Where is it held? How does it work? What will you eat and drink? How will you go about eating and drinking? Should you be scared?

Here are all the answers to your questions. Firstly, you should know that Ljubljana’s Dinner in the Dark takes place in one of the city’s most famous and elegant hotels, Best Western Hotel Slon. So you can expect nothing other than exquisite food, as your dinner-in-the-dark food dishes are prepared in-house by Hotel Slon’s chefs.

Two attentive waiters will guide you all throughout your two-hour culinary experience. They’ll lead you to your table through the dark by means of their night vision devices or goggles (diners are not blindfolded), sit you down, and explain where your cutlery, glasses, and water dispensing jug are.

You’ll also have a container filled with water in which you can wash your hands should you decide to make more use of them rather than your cutlery while eating. You can feel around for your cutlery and use it. But this is actually one of the joys of eating in the dark: you have the liberty to feel your food with your hands, engage with it, and not be ashamed. Here, you can really get intimate with your food!

You’ll also notice that as your food approaches you’ll be able to smell and detect some (if not all) of the items you’re about to eat. Note: With your lack of sight, your sense of smell, taste, and touch are heightened, making your dining experience all the more exciting.

Your two-hour food experience will include four courses. You can choose from either a meat or vegetarian menu. The food is traditional Slovene but with a modern twist in which a number of delightful flavours arouse your senses. Don’t worry, the food is served at just the right temperature so you won’t run the risk of burning your tongue.

There’ll also be a line of wines to accompany your food. In addition to food and drink, you’ll be able to take part in a few fun challenges together with your fellow diners. The many surprises are yours to discover!

Dark dining is an already familiar and popular concept around the world. It started off in Paris and Zurich in the late 90s, spreading to many parts of the world. Some people are apprehensive about eating in pitch-black darkness. However, the popularity of the concept reigns.

Dinner in the dark provides an experiential environment, allowing you to take a voluntary dive into a world of sensitivity that you may never have experienced before. On arrival at the entrance of the dining room, you put away all light sources (mobiles and what not) and valuables in a locker. And you’re ready for that dinner you’ll never forget!

Make sure to ENJOY every second of your dining experience! Time flies when you’re having fun. And lastly, happy Valentine’s!
